Why choose contacts?

Contacts are a safe and fun alternative to glasses when they’re worn properly. Contacts rest on the tear film that coats the cornea and can be used to correct myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia. A variety of lenses are available and our contact lens specialist fit them to match your needs.

What lens options are available?

Lenses meet a variety of vision and care needs. Options include daily wear, extended wear, disposable wear, colored contacts, toric contacts, bifocal contacts, and rigid lenses. Friedberg Eye Associates carries top brands such as Acuvue, Air Optix, Ultra, Biofinity, and many more. You’ll also decide among disposable and extended wear; options for colored contacts are also available.

Do contacts require a special exam?

Contact lens exam services are separate from your initial comprehensive eye exam. You’ll undergo special tests to see how contacts affect your vision and the type that are best for you. The doctor may also do a test called a tear film evaluation to determine whether you make enough tears to be comfortable in contact lenses.

You’ll be supplied with a complimentary trial pair of lenses to try for several days. If this is your first time wearing contacts, you might need a follow-up exam just to make sure you’ve adjusted to wearing the lenses.

Most insurance companies do not cover the extra contact services, therefore expect to pay for them as an out-of-pocket expense. Any of our associates can let you know more about the contact lens exam and any fees that may be associated with it.

How do I purchase the contact lenses?

Contacts can be purchased directly through Friedberg Eye Associates or the office website. The variety of brands of contact lenses we offer come with competitive pricing. If you find a better price elsewhere, ask about price matching! We try to get you the best deal possible. Lens deliveries arrive quickly, but we also have many standard lenses in stock so you may not have to wait for a special order. To ensure you get the best price for your contact lenses, our pricing is updated on a quarterly basis. We offer fair and transparent pricing based on current market value. Ask one of our associates how ordering with Friedberg Eye Associates can benefit you.

Do you fit Scleral Lenses?

Yes!  Scleral contact lenses are large diameter, gas permeable contact lenses that are custom designed for each patient by your eye care provider. These lenses may require multiple fitting appointments in order to get a final lens design, due to the customization of the lenses for an individual’s specific needs.

Scleral lenses can benefit patients with many ocular conditions, including:

  • Keratoconus
  • Corneal Transplants
  • Post refractive surgery; including LASIK, PRK and RK.
  • Severe dry eye
  • Incomplete closure of the eyelids
  • High myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) or astigmatism
  • Corneal scarring
